MAEEP - Building Ventilation and Heat Recovery for HVAC Systems

Timing: Tuesday, September 24 @ 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. EDT

Location: Four Points by Sheraton Norwood, Boston-Providence Turnpike, Norwood, MA, USA, 1125 Boston-Providence Turnpike Norwood, MA 02062

Learn about ventilation requirements and approaches, and how heat/energy recovery can be used to increase efficiency of HVAC systems. This training is focused on commercial and institutional buildings and assumes some basic knowledge of HVAC equipment.

Agenda:

  • Ventilation
  • Introduction to Heat Recovery – Conserving Energy vs Recovering Energy and why you need to do both
  • Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) Systems
  • Hot Gas Reheat (HGRH) for Packaged RTUs
  • Heat Reclaim Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) Heat Pumps
  • Chiller Heat Reclaim
  • Other Solutions - Water Source Heat Pump Loop, Stack Economizers for Steam Boilers, Plumbing Waste Water

Coffee and light breakfast will be available starting about 8am. Class will start at 8:30am. Buffet lunch will be provided.

Continuing education units (CEUs) will be available through UMass.

Instructors:

Ryan Hoger is the Director of Training at Temperature Equipment Corp. where he has worked since 1997. He is a former president of the Illinois ASHRAE Chapter and has been active with gas/electric utility committees. He has extensive experience with energy codes, building automation systems (BAS), energy recovery ventilators (ERV), dual fuel heat pump systems, Aeroseal duct sealing, smart thermostats, variable refrigerant flow (VRF), economizers and packaged RTUs, demand controlled ventilation (DCV), and other energy conserving HVAC systems. Ryan has written HVAC articles for various publications and is the featured instructor on TecTube. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in General Engineering from the University of Illinois, runs several youth sports programs, and is married with four kids.
