Four Signs It’s Time to Replace Your Heating System
September 27, 2017
It’s September but heating season is just around the corner. While you only spend a few months heating your home, nearly half of all energy expenses come from your heating system. Before it starts to get cold, take a moment to think about your home’s heating system and whether it’s time to upgrade to high-efficiency equipment. Being proactive can save you money – and many headaches as well.
Here are four signs it’s time to make a change to your heating system.
Your furnace or boiler is older than 15 – 30 years. A furnace or boiler that receives annual maintenance may last up to 30 years. But if you haven’t had your heating system serviced on a yearly basis, it may not last that long. Think about making a change before it’s too late. You don’t want to be left in the cold with broken heating equipment.
Repair bills or energy costs are adding up. Have you had to call an HVAC repairman to fix your heating system recently? More than once? Or have you noticed your winter energy bills going up season after season? Your heating equipment is trying to tell you something – “Replace me!” As equipment ages, it becomes less efficient, which costs you money.
Rooms are too hot or too cold. As heating equipment breaks down, it struggles to maintain consistent temperatures in your home. You may find some rooms to be too warm while others are too chilly. Properly functioning heating equipment should provide even temperatures throughout your home, so if you have inconsistency, it may be a sign to replace your furnace or boiler.
The air is too dry. If you find the air in your home during the winter to be too dry, it could be a sign of poor equipment operation. This can lead to dry skin, nosebleeds, or increased chance of illness. In addition, it can cause damage to wooden floors or the frame of your home.
Get out ahead of serious issues with your aging system by proactively upgrading to high-efficiency heating equipment. You’ll save money, reduce maintenance costs, and improve the comfort of your home all winter long.
