The Sponsors of Mass Save® Announce the Release of New Mass Save®: Path to Carbon Neutral Report
September 28, 2021
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Massachusetts) – Carbon neutrality is the future, and the Sponsors of Mass Save® are all in, announcing the release of a brand new Path to Carbon Neutral report highlighting sustainability milestones achieved so far and offering a look at the road ahead to achieve ambitious cost-saving and environmental goals for all customers.
Over the past 10 years, the Sponsors of Mass Save have helped Massachusetts lead the way in sustainability and carbon reduction through energy efficiency initiatives, laying the foundation to successfully implement programs in the coming years that will further reduce carbon emissions and allow for truly equitable access to energy-saving resources and technology.
To achieve those goals and reduce carbon emissions at greater levels requires all stakeholders working together to help ensure that everyone – all residents and businesses – can share in the benefits and access the same energy efficient, sustainable technologies that are essential to a clean energy future.
The Sponsors know that their work is cut out for them, but they’re up for the challenge. The path to carbon neutrality is an all-in investment in the future of Massachusetts, Mass Save customers and the communities that have helped lay the existing groundwork for a brighter, more sustainable and energy efficient future.
As outlined in the report, Massachusetts residents in the last 10 years reduced their carbon dioxide emissions by over 3.7 million metric tons by participating in Mass Save’s energy efficiency programs - including home insulation, heat pumps, LED lighting replacement and appliance upgrades. The overall carbon emissions reduction achieved is the equivalent of taking 795,650 of cars off the road.
The report also highlights the high priority of income-eligible communities, noting that from 2013-2019, the Sponsors provided over $680 million in combined electric and gas incentives in Massachusetts’ Gateway Cities* through participation in Mass Save programs.
And as businesses and residents across the commonwealth saved energy, they saved money too. Over 10 years, the Sponsors helped generate more than $27 billion in energy-saving, cost-lowering benefits.
The Mass Save: Path to Carbon Neutral report details the achievements of the residents, businesses, communities and programs that have helped make Massachusetts a leader in energy efficiency for the past decade. It also highlights town-by-town energy savings for 2019, energy-saving benefits provided for income-eligible community members and Gateway Cities*, and outlines what’s next on the journey ahead to carbon neutrality.
