Custom Incentives

Receive custom support and incentives for a variety of energy-saving projects and measures.

Energy-efficiency equipment or projects not covered by standard incentives may still be eligible for custom incentives. These projects typically require additional energy analysis or other technical assistance.

For projects that involve new construction, major renovations, installation of new, unique high efficiency equipment, or replacing existing equipment with new, higher efficiency models, please contact your Mass Save Sponsor and use the Custom Project Application.

  1. Start with a Mass Save Building Energy Assessment and receive energy saving recommendations, including estimated costs to implement the measures.
  2. Work with your Program Sponsor(s) (electric and/or natural gas) and determine the energy savings opportunities to pursue first. Please note, if the recommendation involves a unique emerging technology, it may require the vendor to submit a technology review to determine the energy savings potential prior to proceeding.
  3. Engage implementation contractors to pursue the project design and development.
  4. Submit the required documentation to your Program Sponsor(s) (electric and/or gas) including:
    • b. Itemized project proposal including material and labor
      c. Product specifications/cut sheets
      d. Photos/trend data of existing conditions
  5. Your Program Sponsor(s) will conduct a technical review of the project documentation to determine if the energy saving benefits exceed the costs. This review typically takes an average of 40 days*.
  6. After a successful review, you will receive a custom project incentive offer from your Program Sponsor(s).
  7. Complete your project adhering to the terms and conditions of your custom incentive offer.
*Please reach out to your Program Sponsor(s) with any questions on the status of your project. Project review timelines may vary depending on   whether all required documentation and savings calculators have been received. For example, if savings estimates leverage a custom express   calculator and all supporting documentation has been provided, the timeline for review may be reduced. The project review timeline may be longer   if additional information is required, stalled communication with customer or contractor has occurred, there is limited or no site access, there are   material sourcing or delivery delays, connections to renewable power sources are involved, etc.

  • Must be an existing customer of Berkshire Gas, Cape Light Compact, Eversource, Liberty Utilities, National Grid, or Unitil
  • All applications for custom incentives require sound documentation of the proposed cost, projected electricity and/or natural gas savings, and the related non-energy savings. Specific TMYx weather files must be used for all projects/studies initiated after 7/15/2023.

The following gas or electric high-efficiency measures and others may be eligible for custom incentives.
