Why They Are a 2024 Climate Leader
The City of Melrose was recognized for completing over 50 projects across more than a dozen buildings, including nine schools, a senior center, and various DPW and fire department facilities. These projects included lighting upgrades, HVAC enhancements, weatherization, variable frequency drives, and control systems. They are expected to deliver significant environmental and economic benefits, such as saving over 75,000 therms of gas and 6,500 megawatt hours of electricity. Additionally, the projects are anticipated to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 400 tons. Through these efforts, Melrose showcases its strong commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency, enhancing the functionality and comfort of its public buildings while minimizing its environmental impact.
