Buy a Bulb, Brighten a Life

This October, LEDs can do more than just brighten your home: they can also brighten a life. Throughout the month, energy efficiency organizations across the country are partnering with community-based nonprofits around ENERGY STAR^® certified LED bulbs. This movement is part of the 2016 ENERGY STAR Change the World Tour, a national tour showcasing partnerships that advance energy efficiency while also improving communities. 

The Sponsors of Mass Save—including Cape Light Compact, Eversource Energy, National Grid, and Unitil—are proud to announce their participation in this year’s Change the World Tour. Mass Save Sponsors are teaming up with Massachusetts Fallen Heroes to raise funds for the nonprofit through the sale of specialty packs containing six ENERGY STAR certified LED bulbs. For each pack sold, 50 percent of revenues will be donated to Massachusetts Fallen Heroes to support its mission of honoring the Fallen, assisting Gold Star Families, and empowering returning Veterans. From June until November, packs will be sold for $10 at events throughout Massachusetts and online, with the goal of raising $25,000 for Massachusetts Fallen Heroes. 

Mass Save and its Sponsors are just a few of the organizations that are joining this year’s Change the World Tour. More than 20 utilities, lighting manufacturers, energy efficiency program operators, and retailers are involved. Through their participation, support is being provided to many more nonprofits, such as Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and other local community assistance programs and schools. 

This means that, by purchasing ENERGY STAR certified LED bulbs during the tour, you’ll have the chance to give back to your community, plus still get all the great benefits that LED bulbs provide. ENERGY STAR certified LEDs use up to 90 percent less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs and can last up to 25 times longer, which means you’ll save on energy costs. In fact, you can save up to $10 every year just by replacing one incandescent bulb in your home with an ENERGY STAR certified LED.
