  • The tool is designed to give users an initial estimate of the potential cost savings and greenhouse gas emission savings of installing a heating and cooling system. Actual savings will be determined by the design of the specific system, features of the specific home, residents' energy use, and other variables.
  • Cost savings assumptions produced by this tool are highly sensitive to assumed energy price inputs. This model assumes an average electricity rate of $0.31/kWh, and current fuel price for non-electric commodities as reported by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). Particularly during periods of high price volatility, actual costs and savings could vary significantly based upon a number of factors, including actual energy prices.
